Viscaria Village opens in Kiruna to support copper mining
Viscaria Village has been inaugurated in Kiruna to support the reopening of the Viscaria copper mine and the broader industrial green transition in northern Sweden. The facility provides 132 residential rooms designed to meet the housing needs of entrepreneurs and specialists working on the mine's restart.
Developed by Viscaria Kiruna AB, Strawberry Living, and MG Link, the complex utilizes prefabricated wooden modules that can be dismantled, moved, and reused in future projects. Beyond accommodation, the site includes a restaurant, gym, and social areas to support worker well-being.
Petter Stordalen, owner of Strawberry, emphasized that the industrial transition in the north relies heavily on the people performing the work. The reopening of the copper mine is viewed as a strategic move to supply Europe with the metals necessary for electrification and renewable energy systems.
