Viseu Dão Lafões pushes diaspora investment and tourism innovation

The Intermunicipal Community of Viseu Dão Lafões (CIM) is seeking to boost regional investment by mobilising the Portuguese diaspora. At the Portugal Nação Global event in Lisbon (April 29‑30), executive Nuno Martinho outlined a strategy that links tourism, mobility, education, civil protection and entrepreneurship with investment attraction. The region has already drawn funds from Brazil, Switzerland and France into tourism, hospitality, enotourism and agribusiness, and aims to retain talent through quality‑of‑life improvements and affordable housing.

From June 1‑3, Viseu hosted the 12th Vê Portugal – Forum of Internal Tourism, organised by Turismo Centro de Portugal. The forum highlighted the need to distribute tourism‑generated wealth across territories, discussed AI, sustainability, business tourism and the role of young talent, and positioned Viseu as a central hub for the Centre region’s growth. Together, these initiatives underline a coordinated effort to enhance the region’s economic competitiveness and social cohesion.
