Viseu to host inaugural International Literary Festival in October

The inaugural Viseu International Literary Festival (FLIV) is scheduled to take place from October 2 to 11 in Viseu, Portugal. Under the theme ‘Antes que seja tarde’, the event aims to establish the city on the international book fair circuit.

The festival will feature 218 sessions, including 92 activities held in schools, as well as events in nursing homes and community centers. The program includes 174 participants, such as authors, moderators, musicians, and actors. Notable confirmed attendees include Gonçalo M. Tavares, José Luís Peixoto, Dulce Maria Cardoso, Ana Paula Tavares, Ondjaki, António Torres, and Marco Lucchesi.

Activities will be spread across various locations, primarily centered in the historic district at Mercado 2 de Maio and Rua Direita, but also extending to the Almeida Moreira Museum, Palácio dos Silveiras, and local libraries. The event will host 35 debates, 18 presentations, eight book launches, eight concerts, and three exhibitions. Participants will represent various countries, including Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Spain, France, and Italy.
