Viseu to install 54 surveillance cameras in new security project

The Municipality of Viseu and the Public Security Police (PSP) have signed a cooperation protocol to implement a video surveillance system across four key areas of the city. The project involves the installation of 54 security cameras in the Historic Center, Jugueiros, Rossio, and Rua João Mendes.

Under the agreement, the Municipality of Viseu is responsible for financing the acquisition, ownership, and maintenance of the equipment. The PSP will be responsible for the operational management of the system and the processing of collected images in accordance with applicable legislation.

The project, which was approved in August, represents a total investment of approximately 1.4 million euros and will be implemented in two phases. Local officials stated that the system aims to increase the sense of security for residents and visitors while assisting in crime prevention and the identification of suspects.
