Viseu to provide free public transport for residents
The municipality of Viseu has announced that public transport will be free for residents aged 24 and older starting September 1. This measure complements existing national policies that already provide free transport for children and youth up to age 23, as well as for certain veterans.
The initiative covers the Mobilidade Urbana de Viseu (MUV) network, lines 22 and 23 of the Serviço de Transportes Urbanos de Viseu (STUV), and the Mobi Viseu Dão Lafões network, provided travel remains within the Viseu municipality. To access the benefit, residents must use the Passe Residente Viseu.
Mayor João Azevedo described the decision as a significant step for the city, aimed at supporting family budgets, improving mobility, and promoting environmental sustainability. Residents can apply for or update their passes starting August 24 by presenting identification and proof of fiscal residence.
