Vishvajit More wins historic Greco-Roman silver at U23 Worlds
Vishvajit More has made history as the first Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to win a silver medal at the U23 World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas. Competing in the 55 kg category, More secured the silver after a closely contested final against Georgia’s Koba Karumidze, losing by a narrow margin of 12-13.
More’s path to the final included a 10-8 victory over Mexico’s Isaac Marin Mata, an 8-1 win against Iran’s Armin Shamsipour, and a 7-4 semifinal victory over Russia’s Malik Gigiev. This achievement follows his previous back-to-back bronze medals at the 2024 and 2025 U23 championships.
Other Indian athletes continue to compete in the tournament. In the women’s division, Komal and Diksha Malik remain in contention for bronze medals. Other Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers, including Chetan and Karan Kamboj, were eliminated prior to the medal rounds.
