Vishwa Mohan Bhatt unveils special composition for Durga Puja

Grammy Award winner and Padma Bhushan recipient Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt has unveiled a special musical composition for the 84th Manicktala Chaltabagan Lohapatty Durga Puja in Kolkata. The piece is inspired by the Mahishasura Mardini tradition and incorporates traditional melodies, rhythms, drums, and pakhawajs.

The project features a rare collaboration across three generations of the Bhatt family. Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt composed and directed the music while playing the Mohan Veena; his son, Saurabh, managed the arrangements, recording, and mixing; and his grandson, Atharva, also performed on the Mohan Veena.

The unveiling took place in the presence of members of the Ramnami Samaj from Chhattisgarh, a devotional community established in the 1890s. Bhatt expressed his enthusiasm for the composition being played throughout the Durga Puja pandals.
