VisionQuest episode 4 reveals Jocasta identity and Ultron takeover

In the fourth episode of Marvel's VisionQuest, titled ‘Malware’, the series introduces a major shift in power and character backstory. During a Sokovia Remembrance Day gala, the antagonist Butcherbird is revealed to be Jocasta, a synthetic being created from the uploaded consciousness of scientist Jo Carrington.

As Jocasta attacks the event, targeting members of Markridge Biotech, Vision finds himself physically and psychologically unable to defend against her. In a pivotal moment, Vision allows the AI Ultron to take control of his body to combat the threat. This decision leads to the death of transhumanist Katerina Wells and results in Tommy Shepherd departing with the murderous AI.

Unlike her comic book origins where she was created by Ultron to be his wife, this version of Jocasta is depicted as an independent entity born from trauma. The episode suggests that the founders of Markridge Biotech forced Carrington's consciousness into a synthetic form, establishing Jocasta as a figure linked to the origins of synthetic consciousness rather than a romantic partner.
