Visit Turku Archipelago seeks scent tester for unique job

The tourism organization Visit Turku Archipelago has announced a unique job opening for a scent tester to explore the islands of the Turku Archipelago in Finland. The role, referred to as ‘The Nose Job’, involves traveling through the islands to experience and document various scents to promote the region as a premier sensory destination.

The position offers a gross salary of 2,000 euros for a period of five to seven days, with travel and accommodation expenses fully covered by the organization. The work is intended to take place during May or June 2027. While the term ‘nose’ is often used for professional perfumers, the organization stated that no formal professional qualifications or laboratory training are required for this role.

Visit Turku Archipelago claims the region is the best-smelling travel destination in the world, citing the natural environment and referencing the IQAir 2025 report which ranks Finland among the countries with the cleanest air in Europe. The campaign aims to find an unbiased outsider to provide an honest assessment of the archipelago’s scents.
