Visual artists launch new exhibitions in Mozambique, Portugal, and Brazil
Several visual artists are launching new exhibitions across Mozambique, Portugal, and Brazil.
In Maputo, Patrícia Costa is inaugurating ‘O Sol da Meia-Noite’ at the Fundação Fernando Leite Couto. The project utilizes documentary photography, contemporary collage, and gold leaf to reflect on human resilience and social inequalities based on two decades of work in community development.
In Lisbon, Ian Cheibub is presenting ‘Alumbre na Macaia’ as part of the Imago Lisboa Festival. The work explores the intersection of photography and Umbanda traditions, using ancestral herbal bath techniques on photographic negatives to question colonial notions of visibility.
In João Pessoa, Albenise Vasconcelos is hosting an educational session for her exhibition ‘(Im)permanências’. The collection consists of 19 pointillism drawings that use dental development as a metaphor for human transformation and the passage of time.
