Viswanath Das advances translational research on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s in the Czech Republic
Viswanath Das, a scientist of Indian origin, joined the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine at Palacký University in Olomouc thirteen years ago after moving from New Zealand. He became part of the CATRIN‑ÚMTM centre, where he leads a group studying neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
His research aims to understand how abnormal protein aggregates form and spread in the brain, and to develop non‑invasive methods for early detection and precise classification of tauopathies. Das hopes these advances will enable more accurate diagnosis and eventually more effective therapies. He also founded his own research team at the university and values the extensive equipment and methodological support available at CATRIN‑ÚMTM, as well as its connections to national and European research networks. Previously, he worked at the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Milan and now feels at home in Olomouc.
