VIT Chennai holds 14th annual convocation for 4,518 graduates

The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Chennai held its 14th annual convocation on Sunday, where 4,518 students across undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs received their degrees.

Dr. T. Ramasami, former Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology for the Government of India, served as the chief guest. He emphasized the vital role of youth in shaping the future of their families, nations, and humanity. Ramasami noted that Tamil Nadu has become a leader in research and development since 2000, accounting for approximately 61 per cent of research papers published in India.

VIT Founder and Chancellor G. Viswanathan presided over the ceremony, noting that only about 13 per cent of India’s population has attained graduate-level education. He highlighted the need to expand higher education to match the rates seen in nations such as Canada, South Korea, and Japan. Additionally, Ganesanathan Geathiswaran, Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, spoke on the deep historical, cultural, and religious ties connecting India and Sri Lanka.
