VIT Chennai honors five distinguished alumni at annual meet

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Chennai held its annual alumni meet on Wednesday, honoring five distinguished alumni for their contributions to various sectors. The awards were presented by chief guest and veteran cricketer VVS Laxman.

The award recipients included Nikit Bassi (Entrepreneurship), Dr Saeesh Rajendra Mangaonkar (Academic and Research), Dr Shantanu Mehta (Corporate Career), Shikhar Kashyap (Young Achiever), and Polur MLA R Abishek (Social Development). During his address, Laxman emphasized the importance of gratitude toward educators, describing the bond between teachers and students as a relationship without selfish motives.

VIT founder and chancellor G Viswanathan presided over the event, noting India's economic progress while suggesting the nation needs to improve its performance at international sporting events, such as the Commonwealth Games. VIT vice-president GV Selvam added that alumni serve as ambassadors for the institution's values globally.
