Vitali Klitschko appeals for air defense as Leszek Miller criticizes Mayor

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has appealed for continued military support, specifically requesting air defense systems to combat Russian missile and drone attacks. In an interview with Radio ZET, Klitschko described the situation in the Ukrainian capital as paralyzed, noting that residents must frequently seek shelter and that businesses are unable to operate during raids. He warned that the upcoming winter will pose a significant challenge for the 3.5 million inhabitants of Kyiv due to potential strikes on energy infrastructure.

Klitschko expressed gratitude for the humanitarian aid provided by Poland but emphasized the urgent need for missiles capable of intercepting drones and ballistic missiles. He characterized Russia's actions as genocide driven by a desire to rebuild the Soviet Union.

Former Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller responded to the appeal on the social media platform X with a critical remark, asking, “Perhaps Mr. Klitschko should first turn to his sons?” Miller’s comment refers to the fact that Klitschko’s two sons, Jegor-Daniel and Maksym, reside in the United States and have not served in the Ukrainian military. Miller’s response aligns with previous criticisms regarding members of the Ukrainian elite living abroad while the country seeks international assistance.
