Vitalik Buterin outlines Ethereum's evolution into a cryptographic world computer

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has outlined a long-term technical roadmap that envisions the network evolving from a traditional blockchain into what he describes as a ‘cryptographic world computer’.

In a recent vision for the network's development through 2030, Buterin emphasized a shift toward a system that acts as an intermediary layer between the analog and digital worlds. Key technological drivers for this evolution include optimized Proof of Stake mechanisms, increased integration of Zero-Knowledge proofs on the base layer, and enhanced scaling through Layer-2 networks.

To improve efficiency, the roadmap suggests moving away from models where users must download all data and re-execute calculations. Instead, the network aims to utilize methods like PeerDAS and cryptographic proofs to allow for more streamlined verification. This architectural shift focuses on improving scalability, security, and privacy while preparing the network for future challenges such as quantum resistance.
