Vitalik Buterin proposes Ethereum evolution into cryptographic world computer
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has outlined a vision for the network to evolve into a ‘cryptographic world computer’ by 2030. In a recent proposal, Buterin suggests transitioning the system from a traditional blockchain model toward one that integrates cryptographic proofs and external computing power.
Currently, the network relies on participants repeating transaction verifications to maintain security and decentralization, which limits scalability. Buterin proposes using mathematical proofs to allow a single computer to process transactions and generate a short proof of compliance. Other participants could then verify these proofs much faster than re-executing the original work, significantly increasing efficiency.
The plan also emphasizes enhanced privacy through the use of zero-knowledge proofs. This would allow users and businesses to confirm the validity of information without exposing sensitive underlying data. The transition is expected to accelerate following the planned Hegotá upgrade.
