Vitamin D and immune support importance during colder months

As colder weather approaches and sunlight exposure decreases, health experts are emphasizing the importance of nutritional support to maintain the immune system. Pharmacist Aleksandra Dimitrijević highlights that vitamin D is particularly critical during the autumn and winter months due to reduced sun exposure, which is the body's natural way of producing the vitamin.

In addition to vitamin D, experts suggest that antioxidants, probiotics, zinc, and vitamin C can play vital roles in supporting bodily functions. Vitamin C is noted for its antioxidant properties and role in immune function, while zinc is essential for various biological processes. Vitamin D also contributes to bone health by aiding calcium absorption.

However, Dimitrijević warns against the random use of supplements. She stresses that the choice of preparations and specific dosages must be individualized, taking into account a person's general health status, existing medical therapies, and specific biological needs. Consultation with doctors or pharmacists is recommended before starting new supplement regimens.
