Vitamin D levels decrease as autumn daylight hours shorten
As autumn progresses, the reduction in daylight hours and sunlight intensity leads to a decrease in natural vitamin D synthesis. Because the body produces vitamin D through skin exposure to solar rays, shorter days and increased clothing coverage during cooler months can contribute to lower levels.
This seasonal shift affects individuals differently; for instance, the capacity of the skin to produce vitamin D tends to decrease with age, a point noted by the Fondazione Umberto Veronesi. To compensate for the lack of sunlight between autumn and winter, many individuals utilize vitamin D supplements in drop form to maintain bone, nervous system, and circulatory health.
