Vitamin D supplementation requires calcium balance with Vitamin K and Magnesium
While high-dose Vitamin D supplementation is a common practice for bone health and immunity, achieving proper calcium balance requires more than just Vitamin D. Although Vitamin D facilitates calcium absorption in the intestines, the regulation and direction of that calcium within the body depend on other essential nutrients.
Vitamin K plays a critical role in directing absorbed calcium toward bone tissue by supporting specific proteins. Without adequate Vitamin K, calcium regulation may lack precision. Additionally, Magnesium is necessary for the enzymatic processes that activate Vitamin D and contributes to the structural integrity of bone tissue. Insufficient Magnesium levels can lead to less efficient Vitamin D activation, meaning increased Vitamin D intake alone may not optimize calcium balance or bone outcomes.
