Vitamin K2 and sleep patterns linked to muscle cramps and recovery

Recent research and physiological insights highlight the importance of nutrition and rest in managing bodily functions. A randomized clinical study published in JAMA Internal Medicine investigated the impact of Vitamin K2 on nocturnal muscle cramps in older adults. In a study of 199 participants with an average age of 72, those receiving Vitamin K2 for eight weeks saw their average cramp frequency drop from approximately 2.6 per week to less than one per week. The K2 group also reported reductions in both pain severity and cramp duration, whereas the placebo group saw an increase in frequency.

Separately, experts explain that increased sleep during holidays is a natural recovery process rather than laziness. Michelle Spear, an anatomy professor at the University of Bristol, notes that extended sleep, or ‘lie-ins,’ allows the body to repay ‘sleep debt’ accumulated due to work, stress, and daily obligations. This period of rest helps stabilize sleep cycles, including deep sleep and REM phases, which are essential for physical recovery, immune function, and metabolic regulation.
