Viterbo ceramic museum hosts artisan competition and recovers medieval artifact

The Museo della Ceramica della Tuscia in Viterbo is hosting several cultural initiatives involving historical and contemporary ceramic art. The 19th edition of the “Forme e Colori nella terra di Tuscia” exhibition and competition will take place from October 3 to 24 at Palazzo Brugiotti. Organized by CNA Viterbo and Civitavecchia in collaboration with Fondazione Carivit, the event focuses on “respect for time in artisanal processing.” The competition involves 29 artisan enterprises and students from the “Francesco Orioli” Art High School, with a total prize pool of 13,000 euros.

Additionally, the museum has welcomed back the “Pilgrim’s Tankard,” a 14th-century majolica piece from Orvieto, following its participation in the international “Connected Worlds of Bruges” exhibition in Belgium. The artifact was featured in the exhibition’s section on the Christian world and pilgrimage, contributing to a scientific project curated by international scholars, including Professor Peter Frankopan of Oxford University. The tankard has now been returned to the collections in Viterbo under the supervision of local archaeological authorities.
