Viterbo dead trees controversy prompts municipal response

Councilor Andrea Micci of the Lega raised concerns in Viterbo about a large number of newly planted trees that have died in front of the tribunal, the Carmine parking lot, and other city locations. He described the situation as a “public yellow” issue and questioned the cost, number of live trees, and maintenance responsibilities.

Assessors Emanuele Aronne and Giancarlo Martinengo replied that the dead trees will be replaced by the planting firms at no cost to the municipality. They cited unusually high temperatures, a temporary failure of the drip‑irrigation system, and the pressure to complete contracts before a June 30 deadline as reasons for the plantings being done at the wrong time. Replacement of the affected trees is planned between September and November, with no anticipated fiscal impact on the city.
