Viterbo, Italy records hottest July in 50 years as heatwave persists

In July 2026 the city of Viterbo recorded an average temperature of 29.5 °C, the highest in the last five decades, with daytime highs averaging 34.2 °C and nighttime lows around 21 °C. The heat broke previous records set in July 2003, 2015 and 2024, and nine of the ten hottest July months since 1976 occurred after 2000.

A forecast for 7 August 2026 predicts continued dry and sunny conditions across central Italy, with temperatures ranging from 19 °C to 36 °C. Isolated thunderstorms may develop near higher terrain, but evenings are expected to be clear with widespread brightening.
