Viterbo landfill expansion receives regional authorization

The Le Fornaci landfill in Viterbo has received authorization from the Lazio Region for the second lot of its fourth basin, known as Vt4. Following technical inspections and testing of the works managed by Ecologia Viterbo, the new area is approved to accommodate approximately 308,000 tons of waste, providing a capacity of about 260,000 cubic meters.

The expansion is part of a larger project for the fourth basin, which was originally authorized in 2024 with a total planned capacity of 550,000 cubic meters. This development is intended to address the depletion of space in the third basin (Vt3), which remains in operation. The facility is critical for managing waste from various provinces in the Lazio region, particularly from the Rome area, which faces ongoing shortages of disposal plants.
