Palermo waste‑disposal firms fined €21,000 for safety and environmental violations

An inter‑agency inspection in the province of Palermo uncovered multiple breaches of occupational safety and environmental regulations at several waste‑disposal companies. The operation, coordinated by the prefecture and local labour and environmental authorities, identified flaws such as missing safety signage, improper waste‑handling permits, abandoned bulky waste, non‑compliant equipment, lack of fire‑prevention measures and faulty electrical safeguards.

Employers were prosecuted and collectively fined €21,000. The violations also triggered further review of workers’ conditions by supervisory bodies.

The inspection involved the Carabinieri, the Palermo labour inspection unit, the regional INPS and INAIL offices, the local health authority (ASL), and the environmental police.
