Italian authorities sign safety protocols for tourism, civil protection, roads
On 31 July 2026 the Italian Ministry of the Interior, represented by Minister Matteo Piantedosi, signed a road‑safety protocol with the police, insurance bodies, dance‑venue and beach‑establishment associations to curb risky driving, especially among young people.
The same day six municipalities in the Alessandria province (Alluvioni Piovera, Bassignana, Montecastello, Pecetto di Valenza, Pietra Marazzi and Rivarone) signed a civil‑protection protocol in the prefecture, aiming to coordinate local rescue groups and improve emergency response, with Prefect Alessandra Vinciguerra and regional assessors present.
In Viterbo, Prefect Sergio Pomponio and the mayors of Montalto di Castro and Tarquinia signed protocols to strengthen anti‑mafia controls in the tourism‑hospitality sector, creating a provincial observatory and tighter checks on hotels, restaurants, beach establishments and entertainment venues.
Parallel inspections by the Carabinieri and other forces examined 785 tourism‑related businesses nationwide, finding 63 % irregular. The operation led to suspensions, fines totalling several million euros and highlighted widespread non‑compliance in labour and safety regulations.
