Viterbo prepares for annual Macchina di Santa Rosa procession
Viterbo is preparing for the annual Trasporto della Macchina di Santa Rosa, a major religious and cultural event. The procession features the 'Dies Natalis' structure, designed by Raffaele Ascenzi and carried by a team of facchini led by Luigi Aspromonte. To accommodate the thousands of expected visitors, the municipality has implemented significant traffic restrictions, including the closure of the historic center to vehicles starting at 13:00 and pedestrian restrictions along the route from 19:00. Free shuttle services will operate from various parking areas to the city center.
In a related local tradition, the 'Minimacchina' of the historic center recently completed its 58th procession. Carrying the 'Eterna' structure, 185 young participants followed a new 1,400-meter route that concluded at the Basilica of Santa Rosa for the first time. This event highlighted increasing inclusivity, featuring a growing number of female participants and individuals of foreign origin.
Other regional community events include the 'Villaggio del Gusto' in Viterbo, which showcases local food excellence from the Tuscia area, and a community gathering in Cedrate organized by the 'Insieme per Cedrate' committee. Additionally, an inclusive walk titled 'Il Cammino Possibile' is scheduled for September 20 between Lavena Ponte Tresa and Marchirolo to promote solidarity and well-being.
