Sirai Hospital in Carbonia faces emergency management crisis

Patients with serious fractures, including suspected femoral fractures, are reportedly being held in corridors and the Intensive Short Observation (OBI) unit at the Sirai Hospital in Carbonia. Local councilor Daniela Garau has denounced the situation, stating that approximately nine patients are stuck in the emergency department without clear information regarding transfers or specialist care.

Garau highlighted a perceived paradox: the Orthopedics and Traumatology department is located only ten meters from these corridors but is reportedly operating at significantly reduced capacity. She characterized the prolonged stay of fragile, traumatized patients in emergency areas as a violation of regional and national protocols regarding patient boarding and medical decency.
