Viterbo’s Talete water supply declared non‑potable over fluoride and arsenic levels
The municipality of Viterbo issued an order on 16 July 2026 prohibiting the use of water from the San Martino Campo Sportivo network for any food‑related purpose after tests showed fluoride concentrations above legal limits. The utility Talete was tasked with restoring compliance as quickly as possible, while residents were advised to use the water only for hygiene and technical applications.
In the nearby town of Bassano Romano, a citizen committee has called for answers after more than a year of a non‑potability decree, this time due to arsenic levels exceeding allowable limits. The committee has written to the local health authority (ASL), the Viterbo prefect, and Talete, requesting retesting, remediation measures, clearer public communication and possible tariff relief for affected households.
