Vithas pediatrician explains nutrition's impact on school performance

Pediatrician Paloma Núñez from Vithas Valencia 9 de Octubre emphasizes that a balanced dietary pattern is essential for children's attention, learning, and academic performance. Rather than relying on a single miracle food, experts suggest a diet including all food groups, regular meal schedules, proper hydration, physical activity, and sufficient rest.

According to the Spanish Nutrition Foundation (FEN), a balanced breakfast is linked to better diet quality and cognitive benefits. Dr. Núñez warns that skipping breakfast or consuming highly sugary products can cause rapid energy spikes and crashes, negatively impacting a child's concentration, mood, and classroom participation.

The Spanish Association of Pediatrics (AEP) recommends a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, fish, nuts, and olive oil, while limiting free sugars and ultra-processed products. Specific nutrients, including proteins, are highlighted as vital for brain function and concentration.
