Vito Quiles faces arrest order in Spain over disability mockery case

A Madrid court has issued an order for the search, arrest, and presentation of political agitator Vito Quiles. The judicial order aims to notify Quiles of the opening of oral proceedings regarding a case involving the denigration of a woman with an intellectual disability during a March 2024 interview.

The prosecution is seeking two years of imprisonment for Quiles and one and a half years for Javier Negre, president of EDATV, for crimes against the dignity and integrity of the victim. The judge issued the order after Quiles remained unlocatable for official notifications.

The legal situation coincided with significant unrest in Bilbao, where the University of Deusto suspended activities and cordoned off its campus due to planned protests against Quiles. Thousands of demonstrators gathered to oppose his presence, leading to a heavy police presence in the area.
