Vitoria-Gasteiz Mayor apologizes to Celedón performer

Maider Etxebarria, the Mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz, has issued an apology to Iñaki Kerejazu, the individual who portrays the character Celedón, following her previous criticism of his speech during the La Blanca festivities.

During the celebrations, Kerejazu used his appearance to commemorate the March 3 massacre of 1976. Etxebarria initially responded by stating that political messages should not be mixed with local festivities. However, she later clarified her position on social media, expressing her full support for Kerejazu and offering her remembrance to the victims of the 1976 tragedy.

The mayor noted that political acceleration and fatigue can lead to mistakes, emphasizing that it was never her intention to tarnish the collective memory of the event, especially as the 50th anniversary of the massacre approaches.
