Vitória education union demands school violence prevention

The Public Education Workers Union of Espírito Santo (Sindiupes) is demanding permanent violence prevention measures from the Vitória City Hall. The union's call follows a recent incident at EMEF Elzira Vivácqua dos Santos in Jardim Camburi, where a school director was physically assaulted and her personal belongings damaged by an 8th-grade student.

Sindiupes director Marcelo Castro stated that the increase in school conflicts is linked to inadequate physical and human infrastructure, as well as the devaluation and overwork of educators. The union argues that security measures must go beyond temporary police reinforcement and address structural issues. This follows previous security concerns in the region, including a 2025 incident involving a student with a knife and a fatal school attack in Aracruz in 2022.
