Vittoria commemorates 2002 shipwreck victims
The city of Vittoria held a ceremony on September 22 to commemorate the victims of a 2002 shipwreck. During the event, fourteen roses were placed in the sea to honor the fourteen individuals from North Africa who lost their lives after being forced into the water by smugglers.
The ceremony, organized by the Municipality of Vittoria, included local authorities, law enforcement, and citizens. Participants gathered to reflect on the tragedy, which remains a significant part of the community's collective memory. The event aimed to restore dignity to the victims and highlight the ongoing human cost of dangerous migration routes.
