Vittoria drug trafficking conflict sparks violence in Sicily

Authorities in Vittoria, Ragusa, are investigating a violent conflict between criminal groups over control of the drug trafficking market. The clashes, which occurred during July and August, involve suspected attempts by Giovanni Gurrieri to establish a new criminal group to seize control of drug sales points and supply chains in the Vittoria and Scoglitti areas.

The conflict has escalated through several violent incidents, including attacks on the homes of the Di Modica brothers, who are reportedly linked to local criminal circles. Additionally, the vehicle of Luzim Ndreu, known as ‘Giuliu ’u Tistuni’, was burned.

A physical altercation also took place at the ‘La Lucciola’ bar. Reports indicate that Gurrieri attempted to confront individuals regarding drug sales and sought a meeting with Ndreu, which led to a fight. During the incident, the bar owner, Leandro Li Calzi, sustained a head injury after being struck with a beer bottle while attempting to intervene. Italian investigators are currently examining the links between local criminal networks and individuals of Albanian origin involved in the regional drug trade.
