Vittoria police investigate reports of shots fired near councilor's home
Authorities in Vittoria are investigating reports of three loud noises heard near the residence of municipal councilor Cesare Campailla. While initial reports and surveillance footage suggested the sounds were gunshots, the Questura has issued a denial, stating that forensic investigations found no evidence of gunfire, such as shell casings.
Police officials, including Questore Salvatore Fazzino, suggest the sounds may have been caused by a vehicle passing through the historic center, possibly due to exhaust backfiring. The owner of the vehicle in question reportedly came forward to clarify the situation.
The incident follows recent threats made against Campailla and Mayor Francesco Aiello. While the police lean toward a mechanical explanation for the noise, Mayor Aiello has expressed skepticism on social media, maintaining that the video evidence clearly shows something other than a standard exhaust sound.
