Vivek Ramaswamy faces religious scrutiny in Ohio campaign
Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican nominee for Governor of Ohio, is facing scrutiny regarding his religious identity and theological views. Following his May 2026 primary victory with approximately 82% of the vote, Ramaswamy’s Hindu faith and his descriptions of Christian doctrine have become central points of debate among conservative voters.
Nalin Haley, son of former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, challenged Ramaswamy’s assertion of shared Judeo-Christian values. Haley argued that Hinduism and Christianity possess distinct beliefs and that presenting them as the same “contorts both religions into something they’re not.”
Simultaneously, Christian hardliners have criticized Ramaswamy over resurfaced footage from his 2023 presidential campaign. In the video, Ramaswamy referred to Jesus as “a son of God” rather than “the Son of God.” Critics argue this phrasing conflicts with foundational Christian doctrines, such as the Nicene Creed, which affirms the unique divinity of Jesus.
