Vivo to install 12,000 smart water meters in Pomerode
Telefônica Brasil, through its brand Vivo, has signed a contract with Pomerwasser Ambiental to install 12,000 smart water meters in Pomerode, Santa Catarina. The new hydrometers will automatically transmit data to a centralized platform, enabling remote monitoring and replacing manual reading processes.
The technology is designed to automate consumption readings, monitor system failures, detect leaks, identify potential fraud, and support preventive maintenance for the network. The contract has an initial term of ten years, with the gradual implementation expected to be completed by February 2027.
This project marks Vivo’s second major venture in the sanitation sector, following a R$ 3.8 billion contract with Sabesp last year. The expansion into sanitation and basic infrastructure reflects a broader digital transformation trend driven by Brazil’s Legal Framework for Sanitation, which aims for universal service by 2033.
