Timbiriche series on ViX sparks controversy among former band members

The streaming platform ViX has released the first episodes of a new series inspired by the famous Latin American pop group Timbiriche, sparking significant controversy. Members of the band, including Benny Ibarra, Alix Bauer, Diego Schoening, Mariana Garza, Erik Rubín, and Sasha Sokol, issued a joint statement rejecting the project. They stated they were not consulted, did not participate in the creation of the format, and did not authorize the use of their images, voices, or identities.

The series has drawn scrutiny for its fictionalized portrayal of sexual abuse allegations involving Sasha Sokol and the group’s founder and producer, Luis de Llano. Producer Pablo Cruz noted that the show aims to reflect real events within a fictional framework. Meanwhile, De Llano has formally notified the production company and platform of his opposition to the “lucrative and unconsented” use of his image.

Osvaldo Benavides, the actor portraying De Llano, stated that his role is strictly to follow the script and defend the character within the rules of fiction. Additionally, theatrical producer Alejandro Gou expressed concern regarding the potential impact of the series on the band members' families and emphasized the importance of respecting the group's musical legacy.
