Andhra Pradesh advances industrial growth and trade talks
In Andhra Pradesh, the Visakhapatnam ITI cluster has become the first in India to receive approval under the central PM-SETU scheme. ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) India has committed ₹200 crore to upgrade four Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the region. A shareholders’ agreement was signed between the Andhra Pradesh government, the Centre, and AM/NS India to establish a Special Purpose Vehicle, with AM/NS India holding a 51% stake.
Separately, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) regional summit in Kakinada has drawn investment proposals totaling ₹4,256 crore. These projects are expected to generate over 14,000 jobs across Andhra Pradesh, particularly within the blue economy and MSME sectors.
On an international level, Canada and India are intensifying negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Following the fifth round of talks in Ottawa, ministers from both nations are working toward a conclusion by the end of the year. A large Canadian trade mission is currently visiting India to explore partnerships in energy, aerospace, and artificial intelligence.
