Vize 97 and Charter 77 to organize Václav Havel Human Rights Prize

The Vize 97 Foundation and the Charter 77 Foundation will organize this year's Václav Havel Human Rights Prize. This new arrangement follows the decision by the Václav Havel Library to no longer participate in the organization of the award.

The Library announced in late July that it would not be a co-organizer because it could not use the former president's name in the project title. This follows Dagmar Havlová's decision in June to withdraw consent for the Library to use Václav Havel's name. Despite this change, representatives from the Vize 97 Foundation and Dagmar Havlová stated that the intention is to maintain the prize as a significant international award to honor those protecting human dignity and rights.

The award's schedule remains unchanged. The jury's first session will take place between late August and early September to select three finalists, with a second session in late September to choose the laureate. The cycle will conclude on September 30 with an international conference in Prague. The prize, which includes a 60,000 euro award, is guaranteed by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
