Vizela Mayor Vítor Hugo Salgado accused of domestic violence
The Public Ministry has formally accused the Mayor of Vizela, Vítor Hugo Salgado, of domestic violence following an incident on February 27, 2025. According to the prosecution, a verbal argument at the couple's residence escalated into physical violence, during which Salgado allegedly punched the victim in the face, causing a fractured nose and facial abrasions.
The indictment further alleges that the mayor grabbed the victim, threw her against a wall and the floor, and placed his body on top of her, causing temporary asphyxiation. Medical reports indicated the victim suffered from significant anxiety and required approximately 30 days for her injuries to consolidate. The prosecution noted that Salgado allegedly showed total indifference to the victim's condition, failing to provide assistance or accompany her to the hospital.
While the initial inquiry was archived in May 2025 after the victim withdrew her complaint and declined to testify, the Public Ministry reopened the case to conduct further investigations, leading to the current formal charges.
