Vlaardingen: Twelve people found in truck cargo area

Twelve people were discovered in the cargo area of a truck at a DFDS terminal on the Vulcaanweg in Vlaardingen. The group included men and women of various ages, including elderly individuals, one of whom was in a wheelchair. Authorities noted that the cargo area was very warm.

Police have arrested the truck driver on suspicion of human smuggling. An investigation is underway to determine how the individuals entered the vehicle, how long they were inside, and whether the driver was aware of their presence. The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee continues to monitor illegal attempts to reach the United Kingdom via Dutch seaports.
