Vlach Federation protests Council of Europe resolution on Greek heritage
The Panhellenic Federation of Vlach Cultural Associations has expressed strong opposition to a recent resolution by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe regarding Greece's obligations as a member state.
Resolution 2674/26, adopted on September 29, includes a recommendation for Greek authorities to invest in preserving Vlach heritage in Northern Greece. The Federation sent a letter to Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis expressing “amazement and indignation” over this reference. The organization characterized the recommendations as “without purpose” and rejected attempts by Romanian members of parliament to act as “patrons and protectors of Vlach Hellenism.”
The Federation is seeking clarification on how the Greek government intends to respond to the resolution, which also covers broader issues such as minority rights, the rule of law, and human rights protections.
