Vladimiras Antonovas interrogation continues in Snoras bank case
The Lithuanian appellate court has continued the interrogation of Vladimiras Antonovas, the former head of Snoras bank, regarding the massive misappropriation of bank assets. Antonovas has admitted guilt for the crimes, which include the theft and embezzlement of more than 509 million euros, criminal bankruptcy, and fraudulent accounting.
Antonovas and former shareholder Raimondas Baranauskas were previously sentenced in absentia to over 10 years in prison. The state is seeking the confiscation of 105 million euros from the defendants. While Baranauskas remains a fugitive in Russia, Antonovas was apprehended in France and extradited to Lithuania earlier this year.
During recent proceedings, prosecutors expressed skepticism regarding Antonovas’s sincerity, noting that while he does not dispute the factual circumstances of his illegal actions, he often avoids discussing specific criminal schemes in detail. The case also involves international legal complexities, as Latvia has requested Antonovas's extradition in connection with separate proceedings involving Krajbanka.
