Vladimir Cvijan death investigation sparks controversy in Serbia

The association Ustavobranitelji condemned what it called a regime‑led campaign to conceal the killing of Serbian lawyer Vladimir Cvijan. In a statement signed by lawyers Čedomir Kokanović, Jovana Rajić and Ivan Ninić, the group criticised the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade for claiming there is no evidence of a criminal act, despite an autopsy report that describes a head wound consistent with a gunshot‑type injury.

The Prosecutor’s Office responded by publishing the full autopsy findings, asserting that Cvijan died by drowning and was intoxicated at the time of death. It rejected allegations of a gunshot wound, describing the described lesions as small skin injuries and emphasizing that the forensic report does not support the claim of a firearm injury. Both sides accuse each other of spreading misinformation and demand transparent, fact‑based answers.
