Agência Brasil and TV Brasil win Vladimir Herzog Awards

Agência Brasil and TV Brasil, both part of the Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), have been honored at the 48th Vladimir Herzog Journalism Award for Amnesty and Human Rights.

Photographer Tomaz Silva from Agência Brasil won in the photography category for his impactful image titled ‘Viúva se despede do marido morto na operação policial mais letal do Rio de Janeiro’. Captured in October 2025 at the Complexo da Penha, the photograph depicts Fernanda da Silva Martins embracing her husband's body following a lethal police operation in Rio de Janeiro.

In the video category, the TV Brasil program ‘Caminhos da Reportagem’ was recognized for the episode ‘Trabalho escravo doméstico: silêncio e servidão’. Aired in April 2026, the reportage explores the lives of women subjected to conditions analogous to slavery and discusses improvements for post-rescue support.

The awards ceremony, held in São Paulo, also included a special award for journalist Jamil Chade for his international coverage of democracy and justice. The event emphasized the role of journalism in preserving memory and denouncing human rights violations.
