Vladimir Maričić releases ‘Balkan Jazz’ book

Jazz pianist Vladimir Maričić has released a new book titled ‘Balkan Jazz’, which explores the musical connections between jazz and the traditional music of the Balkan region. The work examines how the improvisational nature and cultural intersections found in jazz—rooted in African, European, and Latin American patterns—mirror the complex musical heritage of the Balkans, shaped by Illyrian, Celtic, Slavic, and Oriental influences.

The book provides technical analysis of scales, rhythms, and improvisational techniques, including musical notation and video supplements accessible via QR codes. It is intended to assist musically educated readers in applying these shared elements to their own arrangements. The publication has received support and recommendation from the UNESCO National Commission.
