Vladimir Putin announces aviation modernization and election appeal
Russian President Vladimir Putin has outlined plans to modernize the nation's aviation sector and infrastructure. During a video conference regarding an agreement between Aeroflot and Rostec for 90 MC-21 aircraft, Putin emphasized the necessity of expanding and updating the domestic aircraft fleet and airport facilities. He stated that a modern flight network is vital for connecting remote regions, including Siberia, the Far East, and the Arctic, while boosting regional economies and tourism.
Putin noted that since 2021, 20 runways and 26 terminal complexes have begun operations. He announced a goal to modernize at least 75 airports—covering more than one-third of Russia's total network—by 2030 through a mix of state funding and private investment.
In a separate address ahead of upcoming parliamentary elections in Moscow, Putin urged citizens to participate in the vote for the State Duma. He described the election as a crucial moment that will ‘determine our future,’ noting that this will be the first parliamentary vote held during the ongoing military campaign in Ukraine.
