Vladimir Putin calls for global governance reform at BRICS Summit

During the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for significant reforms to global governance structures, including the United Nations Security Council, the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank. Putin argued that the unipolar international system is becoming a thing of the past, as power shifts toward new growth centers in the East and the Global South.

He criticized Western powers for using economic sanctions, customs wars, and interference in internal affairs to maintain control. Putin highlighted the growing influence of BRICS, noting that member states account for approximately 40 percent of global GDP and nearly half of the world's population.

On the sidelines of the summit, Putin met with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During the meeting, Putin identified the United Arab Emirates as one of Russia's closest partners in the Middle East and emphasized the importance of Russia listening to the UAE's perspectives on regional developments.
